Don't open your eyes

Don't open your eyes
for goodness' sake
don't you dare look.
But file, and queue
And if you're shut out
Just shut up
and mark your cross with your thumb print

Don't open your eyes
for God's sake
I tell you what,
Look at these shoes instead,
Red wedges, blue converse; Red or Dead.

Eyes flick open
Focus, flutter
Shutter wide.

Life is.......

Life is a journey
For which we have no chart.
It is a big adventure
Right from the very start.

Life is what we make it
Through good times and through tough.
We need to learn the lessons
Take the smooth as well as rough.

Life is for living and for sharing
Random acts of kindness,
Looking always to the One
Who can take away our blindness.

Life is a journey
With a finish as well as start.
Take care with how you travel,
And ask God to guard your heart.

A Kingdom, Not a Playground

This is not the age to revel in liberty
Our freedom has spoiled us
And made us like infants
We need to look again
And see the image of God in us
This is the time to reflect our Creator
And create
And then to rule kindly and wisely
Exercise our dominion
Not gorge ourselves on licence
We are a Kingdom
Not a playground

General Election 2010

Bleary eyed and weary
Exhausted is more like it.
Why did I listen half the night?
Waiting to hear the result.
It has never been like this!

We are living in dangerous times;
The country deep in the mire,
Children dying on our streets,
Politicians fiddling expenses.
Greed, evy and a passion for power.

I woke this morning
And heard the news.
I am so confused.
Cameron has come in first
And yet he didn't win!

Clegg won the debate but
lost the election.
Brown just hangs on in there.
What now?
What happens next?

I remember words about
Brothers living in harmony.
I think about the meaning
Of unity.
Sharing and working together.

This is the time to unite.
This is the time to share.
This is the time to work together,
To build a government for the people,
To bow to a higher power.

Forget your pride,
Forget your differences
Stand shoulder to shoulder
Bring into being
A truly United Kingdom

A Psalm for Now 1

My heart is not hard
My eyes are not cloudy
I don’t tidy up as much as I should at home
I give place to my heartbeat
Like a ticking clock is my soul within me
I make sure my soul is oiled with the pure oil of love

A Psalm for Now 2

My heart is not hurried
My eyes are not deceived
I do break into a blind rush
I give my soul as much time and space as it demands
My soul is like a river that causes me to flow forward
And around obstacles
